WomenInTech
"Hello Sir, Good Morning! How may I assist you?" A refined feminine voice greeting a man on the counter lit up the air of the tedious office environment. I was sitting in the lobby of a famous IT company, waiting for my turn for a job interview. I was eavesdropping on the conversation happening on my left side of the entrance. The man, standing there with her female colleague was arguing over the petty matter which according to him "Cannot be tackled by naivete of her." On the other hand, that woman was determined to convince him of her capabilities. The male's attitude towards her female colleague made me wonder, why was he so unsure of the competence of her female colleague? Maybe his bad working experience or the female related constructs imposed by the society was making him question the abilities of his female colleague. The world is evolving in every right way but still, there are plenty of such remarks which are insensitively thrown at women in every field. The only question that arises here is "How to break such stereotypes?"

Microsoft Community Lahore Program, "WomenInTech'' popped up on my Facebook news feed a few days back. Their attention grabbing marketing, focusing on breaking the stereotypes related to women in the tech field compelled me to apply for this program. The nervousness while filling that application form was worth it when I received the notification of getting selected as a core team member after a few days. An opportunity for all the career-oriented women in technology to show the world that they have and what they can do, was a proud moment for me. My journey in "WomenInTech '' has disclosed that it is not just a program but it is a campaign, a movement to change attitude towards women in technology. This movement is aimed at fixing the pipeline to help more girls and young women to get started in the sector of technology.
There is absolutely no intellectual difference between the roles of women and men in the tech jobs sector. These are only cultural constraints and stereotypes that drive women away from the tech field. Those days are gone when women are restricted to the daily household chores only as they have proved their potential by mastering the art of managing careers side by side.
Creating a suitable women friendly environment is the very first step to empower the female force. Now, girls are as much in the IT field as any other field, it is the time when we all should work hard to present to the world that women and men are on an equal playing field.
Microsoft Students Partner has started this initiative to empower women in the tech field, it is a supportive global community in which women can connect. create, inspire, innovate and encourage each other to realize their passions. Weekly sessions for productive discussions and online learning conferences are making the community a game changer for all the women. Many female students from different universities are on board in this and playing their role in the progress of women in the tech field. Be a part of this historical journey.
WomenInTech endeavor to let the geeky women out there ascend the sky of success and evolve tech in a womanly way!
Best of Luck 👍
